Background
The customer wanted to use their outdoor terrace all year round – like an additional “room” for relaxation, meeting with friends, dinner, etc.
Solution
After an on-site inspection, our recommendation was to glaze the covered terrace with SF20 all-glass sliding system from Sunflex.
When installing a glass curtains (SF25), the glass panels would stand in the ‘room’ when open, the exit from the living room to the terrace would also be blocked when the glass panels were open.
It would not make sense to install the SF25 outside, as it would have to be installed underneath the stair tread, which would also create a ‘tripping hazard’ and the glass panels would open outwards – with strong winds, the glazing would then have to be closed, as the free-standing glass panels would otherwise pose a risk. This limits the use or ‘lingering’ on the patio in the summer months – i.e. in high temperatures and strong gusts of wind, you would be sitting behind closed glazing. With an external installation, the motorised awnings would have had to be moved, which would have involved a great deal of effort.
We installed the SF20 sliding glazing on the inside of the terrace, as it is ideal for optimising the use of space. As it is sliding glazing, there are no glass panels
‘standing’ in the room when it is open. We have also recommended installing the glass edge to glass edge system – without disruptive profiles as corner connectors
Result
The extensive remodelling has transformed the patio into a versatile outdoor space that meets customer needs in every way. Whether as a cozy reading corner, an outdoor dining area or a place for social gatherings – the terrace is now a place where the customer feels completely comfortable and can enjoy nature all year round.
